Four stretches of the year.
December to February: dry and mild
Rain is between about 4 and 7 mm a month. Highs are 30.7 to 32.3 °C and lows 20.0 to 21.3 °C, so mornings are the coolest of the year. This is the easiest time for a long day between temples or an early sunrise tour.
March to May: hot and getting wetter
Highs go from 34.6 to 35.3 °C. Rain is still light in March and April, at 41.3 and 47.5 mm, then jumps to 143.0 mm in May. Start early, drink often, rest in the shade at midday and use a hat and sunscreen.
June to October: the wet months
Rain runs from 143 mm in May to 305 mm in September, with 227 mm still in October. Highs are lower, from 31.3 to 32.8 °C, but lows stay warm at 22.4 to 25.1 °C. Plan indoor galleries and shaded temples for the wettest hours.
November: the turn
Rain drops to 61.8 mm and highs sit at 31.6 °C. Weather at the edges of the seasons changes from year to year, so allow for a shower in any month except the driest.
Rain safety and what to pack
Wet stone is slippery. APSARA, the park authority, advises visitors to wear shoes with a good grip, to follow warning signs and to take care in strong wind, because branches and trees can fall. In a storm do not park or take shelter under large trees.
Pack a light rain jacket or poncho, a cover for your phone or camera, a hat, sunscreen, a refillable water bottle and clothes that cover shoulders and knees. Temples are religious sites, and the dress rule applies in every season. A walk through a gallery, such as the one in the picture, is a good way to wait out a shower.
