Where to stay in Siem Reap in short

Most visitors sleep in Siem Reap town and travel to the temples each day. The town is the base for the Angkor park, and the areas differ mainly in noise, walking distance to restaurants and the length of the morning ride.

Staying near Angkor does not give you entry without a pass. Every visitor needs an Angkor Pass, whether the hotel is in the center or on the road to the park. This page has no hotel names and no room prices. It helps you pick an area first, then you compare places in that area on a booking site. If you want help with the days themselves, see Angkor Wat tours, some of which start with a hotel pickup.

Area by area

Who each area suits.

Old Market and Pub Street

Choose it for dining, markets and evenings out. Rooms close to the bars can be loud into the night. Ask for a quiet room or one on a back street. See things to do in Siem Reap for the evening options.

Wat Bo

A more local feel, with places to eat and drink along the streets east of the river. Distance to the center depends on the exact address, so check it on the map.

French Quarter and northern center

Tree-lined streets between Sivatha Boulevard and the river. A good mix of calm and access, though a quiet night is never guaranteed.

The road toward Angkor

Rooms here are nearer the temple entrance and make early starts shorter. The price is distance from the center's restaurants and nightlife. "Near Angkor" does not mean entry without a pass.

Sok San Road

Bars, restaurants and places to sleep. Do not expect a quiet street. Pick a room away from the road.

Outer areas

More space, but more distance. You will need a transfer for dinner and for the temples, and events nearby can still be heard.

Matching the area to your Angkor plan

If you plan a sunrise at Angkor Wat, the day starts very early. One private sunrise tour picks guests up at 04:45. A bed that is easy to reach from the pickup point and a quiet room matter more than a view. The sunrise guide has the details.

If you plan two or three days in the park, location matters less than comfort. You will leave in the morning and come back after the heat. Pick the area that you want to come home to in the evening.

If you arrive by air, remember that the airport is about 50 km from town. The airport shuttle bus city station is at 7 Makara Road, so check how far your area is from it. The getting there page has the timetable.

How to choose a place in your area

Questions to ask before you book.

Where exactly is it?

Look at the map, not at the area name. Two places in the same area can be a short walk or a long ride from the center.

Can they arrange transport?

Many places in town can book a tuk-tuk, a driver or a tour for you. Ask for the price before you agree.

What do recent guests say about noise?

Read reviews from the last few months and search them for the word noise.

Is early breakfast possible?

Ask if breakfast can be packed for a sunrise start.

Where to stay in Siem Reap: frequently asked questions

Which area suits a first stay in Siem Reap?

For most first-time visitors, the Old Market area or the French Quarter. You can walk to dinner and reach a tuk-tuk easily. The right choice depends on how much noise you accept.

Is it worth staying close to Angkor?

Rooms on the road toward the park make early starts shorter, but you give up the center's restaurants and nightlife. Staying near Angkor does not give you free entry, because you still need a pass.

Is Pub Street noisy?

It can be. Rooms right next to the bars can be loud at night. Ask for a quiet room or choose a street further back.

How far is Siem Reap from the airport?

The new airport, SAI, is about 50 km east of town. The drive takes roughly 1 hour 15 minutes.

Do I sleep inside the Angkor park?

Most visitors do not. Plan your base in or around Siem Reap town. You enter the park each day with your pass.

Is this the official Siem Reap or Angkor accommodation site?

No. This is an independent travel guide. It is not the website of the APSARA National Authority, Angkor Enterprise or the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, and it is not connected to any tour operator or hotel.
