Ta Prohm at a glance
Ta Prohm is known for the roots and trunks that spread across its walls and galleries. The trees and plants are kept as part of the temple's look, which is why it is often called the tree temple of Angkor. It lies on the small circuit and is open from 06:00 to 18:30.
Ta Prohm is included in the Angkor Pass. In 2026 the pass costs $37 for one day, $62 for three days (valid within 7 days) and $72 for seven days (valid within 30 days). Children under 12 enter free. Most visitors reach Ta Prohm by tuk-tuk or on a day of Angkor Wat tours, together with Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat.

The trees of Ta Prohm
The roots over the stone are the reason most people come. Big trees grow on galleries and across doorways, and fallen blocks lie where they dropped. The result is a ruin that looks very different from the clean towers of Angkor Wat.
Work on the temple goes on while it is open, so parts of it can be fenced off or under scaffolding.

Ta Prohm is not untouched
Ta Prohm is not a wild ruin left alone. APSARA, the Cambodian authority for Angkor, works on it together with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The East Gate project began in 2022 and the South Gate project in 2023, and the work continues. Parts of the temple can be fenced off or covered by scaffolding.
That is normal for a living monument. It does not mean the whole temple is closed. It does mean that you should not count on a particular route or a photo spot. Ask your guide or driver which areas are open on the day you go.
Tomb Raider and Ta Prohm
Ta Prohm was used for the film Tomb Raider in 2001. That is part of why many visitors know it. Do not expect the whole temple or every large tree to match a film scene. Treat the film as a reason to look, not as a map.
Tips for visiting Ta Prohm
The paths are narrow in places, so a little planning helps.
Go early or late
The temple opens at 06:00. Arriving at the start of the day, or later in the afternoon, gives you more room on the narrow paths.
Angkor itinerary โAfter rain
Stones can be slippery, and wind can break branches or bring trees down. Wear shoes with good grip, and follow the warning signs. In a storm do not park or shelter under large trees.
Weather in Siem Reap โCombine it with the center
Ta Prohm sits on the small circuit with Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat. The Bayon is a short drive away.
Bayon โBring your pass
You need your Angkor Pass at the gate. Read how to buy it before you go. You can buy the pass on the official ticket website, in the app, at ticket machines or at the counters. The one-day pass needs no photo, while the three-day and seven-day passes do. Tickets are checked at the temples, so keep yours with you.
Angkor Pass โDress and behavior at Ta Prohm
Ta Prohm is a religious site. Cover shoulders and knees. Do not climb on loose stones or on walls, respect barriers and do not take anything away. Do not feed monkeys or interact with them directly.
Tuk-tuk drivers wait near the temple while you walk, and this is a good place to agree where you will meet. Agree the price for the day before you start.
